Dimethyl Fumarate: Heterogeneous Catalysis for the Development of an Innovative Flow Synthesis
In our recent article, our team in Milan explains how they developed an improved synthesis of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) dimethyl fumarate. Previously, commercial production strategies of dimethyl fumarate were plagued with issues including reaching complete conversion and the formation of toxic impurities. In order to solve for these challenges, our team utilized continuous flow technology and newly developed methylation conditions to solve for these issues
We carried out the optimization using the design of experiment approach, and the results afforded a very efficient, sustainable process, suitable for the industrial applications.
